    The Apollonas track is designed for children with limited or no experience with the Modern Greek language. Classes are taught in both English and Greek to aid the language learning experience. Classes meet for 2 hours (or 1.5 hours for Pre-K A) twice per week.

    Over the course of the school year, students will be taught basic vocabulary, songs, nursery rhymes, and verbal games. 

    During class, students will be read to from very simple picture books, will draw and color, sing, listen to music, watch brief music videos, dance, play with arts and crafts, and organized games that provide the opportunity to use verbal exchanges. They will be introduced to the alphabet through these activities as they focus on a specific letter of the alphabet each week. 

    Respond to questions regarding their own first name and age. Recognize and name all uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet. Names primary colors, shapes, body parts, farm and zoo animals. Write and read simple words. Match oral words to printed words. Count from 0 to 20. Follow very simple instructions. 

    Introduction to the verb “εγώ είμαι” focusing only on the singular persons, the singular and plural form of very common neutral nouns (ending in –ο, -ι), to the verb «Μου αρέσει/ Δεν μου αρέσει». Names are very common nouns found in classroom, house, playground. May attempt to form a very simple sentence (Subject + Verb + Object) without ensuring subject-verb agreement and the correct case of object. Read words and simple text. Understand and follow one-step oral directions. 

    Talk about themselves. Use the present tense of verbs of the 1st conjugation, ensure subject-verb agreement. Use the present tense of the verb “εγώ είμαι”. 

    Writes simple sentences that include Subject, Verb, Object, ensuring subject and verb agreement.Understands that nouns and adjectives have three genders and attempts to match the gender of the adjective with the noun.

    In speech may use grammatical forms that are literal translations from their native language. 

    Attempts to make the most of the vocabulary learned. Attempts to write a brief paragraph of a personal narrative writing (using the dictionary or help from a native speaker)(3-4 simple sentences). Comprehension exceeds the ability to produce language. 

    Identify characters, settings, and important events in a story. Attempt to retell stories using basic grammar, sequencing events by answering who, what, when , where, why, and how questions. Use descriptive words when speaking about people, places, things, and events. Deliver brief recitations and presentations about familiar experiences or interests that are organized and are on the topic. Participate in simple group discussions.
